 Counselling in Potton, Bedfordshire

Welcome, I'm Karen

I'm a BACP Accredited Integrative Therapeutic Counsellor based in Potton, Bedfordshire.

People often come to me having struggled for some time with overthinking, self-doubt, people-pleasing, emotional overwhelm or difficulties in relationships.

You may spend a lot of time thinking about conversations afterwards, wondering whether you said the wrong thing or upset someone. You might find it difficult to set boundaries, put your own needs first or trust your own thoughts and feelings.

Perhaps you recognise patterns in your relationships that keep repeating, even though you don't fully understand why.

For some people, these difficulties are connected to experiences from childhood or previous relationships. Your childhood may even have seemed “fine”, yet something still doesn't quite make sense about the way you feel about yourself or relate to other people today.

Counselling gives us the opportunity to explore these experiences together, without judgement and without expecting you to have everything worked out before you begin.

You May Be Experiencing:

  • Feeling anxious, on edge, or unable to fully relax

  • Overthinking, replaying conversations, or finding it difficult to switch your mind off

  • Struggling with self-doubt or feeling like you are “not good enough”

  • Feeling unsure of yourself or lacking confidence

  • Finding relationships difficult or noticing the same patterns repeating

  • Difficulty trusting others, feeling safe in relationships, or letting people get close

  • People-pleasing, putting others’ needs before your own, or finding it hard to set boundaries

  • Feeling disconnected from yourself, unsure who you are, or struggling to trust your own thoughts and feelings

  • Feeling emotionally overwhelmed, shutting down, withdrawing, or feeling numb

  • Carrying the effects of difficult or painful childhood experiences

  • Feeling affected by past relationships or experiences that you cannot seem to move on from

  • Grief, loss, or feeling emotionally stuck

I offer a calm, supportive space where we can gently explore whatever you’re experiencing,

at a pace that feels right for you.

Fees

About Me

I offer face-to-face counselling in Potton, online video sessions, and telephone counselling.

£50 per 50-minute session

Sessions are usually held weekly or fortnightly at the same time each week where possible, providing consistency and support in the therapeutic process.

Payment is required 24 hours in advance by bank transfer.

If you have any questions about counselling, fees, or availability, you are welcome to get in touch.

I am a BACP Accredited Member (MBACP Accred) and hold a CPCAB Level 5 Diploma in Somatic Trauma Therapy.

Clients often describe me as calm, warm, and easy to talk to. I understand that reaching out for support can feel daunting, particularly if you have spent a long time coping alone or putting other people's needs before your own.

My aim is to build a therapeutic relationship where you feel safe, accepted, and able to explore whatever is bringing you to counselling

Understanding What Lies Beneath

Anxiety, overthinking, self-doubt and difficulties in relationships do not always appear from nowhere. Sometimes the ways we respond to ourselves and other people have been shaped by earlier experiences and relationships.

As an integrative counsellor, I draw from different therapeutic approaches according to your individual needs. My work combines person-centred therapy, psychodynamic understanding and somatic trauma-informed approaches.

This allows us to explore what is happening for you now while also becoming curious about how past experiences and relationships may be connected to patterns in the present.

My additional training in somatic trauma therapy also informs my understanding of how anxiety, stress and trauma can affect the body and nervous system as well as our thoughts and emotions.

We work together at a pace that feels manageable for you.

Reaching out for support can feel like a big step, especially if you're used to managing things on your own or you're not sure where to start.

An initial conversation gives us the opportunity to talk briefly about what you're experiencing, what you would like support with and whether working together feels like the right fit.

You don't need to have everything worked out before contacting me.

You can contact me by phone, email or using the contact form. I'll respond as soon as I can and look forward to hearing from you.
