Individual Counselling Online and in person

Hello.  My name is Karen and thank you for taking the time to read my profile.

Maybe you are struggling with anxiety, depression, loss, low self-esteem, trauma or perhaps you are just feeling distressed and you don’t know why. It may be that you are struggling to cope with something that has happened in your life.

I am an experienced integrative counsellor which means that I am trained to work in a variety of ways to help you with your personal and emotional problems. My intention is to build a relationship with you that is safe enough for you to bring whatever is concerning you. I will listen closely, without judgement.

I firmly believe that by working collaboratively with my clients it helps them find a sense of hope and direction, as well as enhancing their own internal resilience.

I can help guide you through times of difficulty towards a deeper understanding of yourself, your feelings, thoughts and behaviours as well as identifying ways of finding your own solutions to problems. I am constantly in awe of the transformation that people can make through counselling and I feel privileged to be able to be a part of it.

Reaching for help is not easy, but I know from my experience that finding the right therapist leads to a life-changing experience and a more conscious existence.

Please get in touch if you have any questions about the process – no obligation, just make contact and ask anything you would like to. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Initial Session

When you first make contact we will arrange an appointment for a initial session where we will look at your personal situation for seeking counselling. This will enable you to feel whether counselling can help and whether you feel I am the right counsellor for you.  There is no obligation to attend further sessions.

My Approach

I am an integrative counsellor which means I use various therapeutic models that will be especially tailored to you, the client, as I believe not one approach suits all and that each person is unique.

At the core of my training is person-centred which means the counselling session is led by you, that you are the expert on yourself as nobody else knows what it is like to be you. We will explore your own issues, feelings, beliefs, and behaviour so you can become more self-aware and achieve greater independence.

I work Psychodynamically which means by being curious about our past experiences can help with our problems in the present.  By understanding and exploring our early relationships can help us to see the impact they have had on us and why we feel, think and behave in certain ways and how this plays out in our current relationships.

I have a particular interest in trauma and how it manifests in the body affecting a person’s nervous system. Counselling can help you tune into your body and how it responds, once tuned in you can start to control how your body reacts to stress and trauma. Quite often there is a disconnection between the mind and body, we tend to live in our heads, forgetting about the body. When we become  aware of what goes on in our bodies and its sensations it can help us come back into our bodies again, it is almost like a ‘coming home to ourselves’ we can feel safe again. This can help alleviate stress and anxiety.

"We think we listen, but very rarely do we listen with real understanding, true empathy. Yet listening of this very special kind, is one of the most potent forces for change that I know"
